Clarence House Chase Preview
After winning the Clarence House Chase in 2016 by five lengths from the highly rated Sire De Grugy, Un De Sceaux looked well set to take victory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham. And he would have too, were it not for the legend that is Sprinter Scare who put in an awe-inspiring performance to take the prize.
In this year’s renewal of the Clarence House, Un De Sceaux’s main rival looks to be Gary Moore’s French seven year old, Ar Mad. He was only fourth in the Tingle Creek last time out (which Un De Sceaux won, incidentally), but he hit a couple of fences which hampered his progress somewhat and we expect more from him here. He won all three of his novices’ chases last season and he should compete here with a clean run, but we think Un De Sceaux has the beating of him.
Of the others, Dodging Bullets, who won the Champion Chase at Cheltenham in 2015, is probably past his best now. Top Gamble, from Kerry Lee’s yard, could have a chance, but he’d need the better runners to falter badly.
In short, we think Un De Sceaux will cruise to victory in this one and the 33/1 offer with Coral is therefore well worth grabbing!
