Weekend Betting Tips for Ashes First Test, Liverpool v Chelsea and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
This weekend is a mix of starts and finishes across the world of sport. The 2017/18 Ashes gets underway in Australia this week, while the Formula 1 season comes to and end. There’s also an early start to the Festive fixture list in the Premier League, as this weekend’s matches are the first of nine rounds between now and January 3. Ahead of all that, we’ve previewed each of those and picked out a betting tip on each.
Australia v England First Test – Squad Issues Make for a ton Weight
The first Ashes test gets underway in Brisbane this week, but these two sides are not settled ahead of the opener. England have an unexperienced side down under, while Australia have made changes as they go chasing runs. That seems to be their main concern ahead of this opener at the Gabba, but the Aussies are still favourites. However, it’s difficult to settle on a winner given that both sides are top heavy in their order. We can see this one coming down to who has the most to offer lower down the order, especially if both sides target their opposition’s stars early on.
One interesting thing to note here is that three consecutive Ashes series have seen the Aussies come close to a century in the opener. Their top scorer in those last three openers have all made it in to the 90s, but they were out before they could hit a century. We can see something similar happening here, so we think Betfair’s 15/2 on no player to score a century is a great price.
Betting Tip: No player to score 100 at 15/2 with Betfair
Liverpool v Chelsea – Can Blues Continue Anfield Streak?
Chelsea head to Anfield on Saturday evening, as they look to boost their hopes of a Champions League finish. The Blues are coming off the back of a 4-0 win at West Brom last weekend, and they’ll be looking to cause problems for this Liverpool defence. Jurgen Klopp’s side have issues at the back, especially when it comes to taking on the top sides in Europe.
Liverpool have conceded nine goals in meetings with Man City and Tottenham, and they must be worried about facing the champions. That comes after the Reds threw away a 3-0 lead away Sevilla, conceding some really sloppy goals. While they have a brilliant scoring record this term, the Blues should punish a Liverpool side who have now drawn 2-2 and 3-3 with Sevilla in Europe. The Blues are unbeaten in six trips to Liverpool, while they’ve drawn in their last three visits here, so we’re backing a 2-2 draw between these two.
Betting Tip: 2-2 Draw at 8/1 with BetVictor
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Curtain Comes Down on F1 Season
The final Formula 1 race of the season takes place this weekend, which takes place in Abu Dhabi. This closing race might not mean much to champion Lewis Hamilton, but there are others who will be desperate for a win. Hamilton has slightly tailed off in the last couple of races, which is understandable as he was just focused on getting over the line in the title race.
That opens this race up to another driver, and we could see an outsider taking maximum points here. The last two years have seen this race won by a Mercedes driver, but not the one who lifted the title. That is a good omen for Valtteri Bottas, who took pole position last time out. We think he’s worth backing for more success here, so we’re backing him to win at 6/1 with Coral.
